Two covers which didn't quite take flight...
I designed the 25th Anniversary edition of The Polar Express, oh, five years ago... and this year, hello, 30th Anniversary! A highlight for me. Publishers Weekly had a nice write-up of the design changes (inside and out!) for this special anniversary edition of a classic picture book.
Alas, this cover was killed. (The new logo I designed was approved, though!)
These are just a few of the directions which were killed. Eric Greitens even sent in his dress uniform in case we wanted to photo shoot it. The Navy SEALs' motto is, "The only easy day was yesterday." TRUTH.
Here is a shot of the new 80th Anniversary Collection of Mary Poppins-- you can't see the specs in the image I posted in the Book Covers section.
It's TRUE-- in so much as Marcel has exquisite graphic design taste and has an issue of The Nose (published and designed by Pushpin, where I was a designer) in his abode. RIGHT THERE. I designed this issue of The Nose! Can you imagine the screen-capturing which ensued when I came across this? NO? WELL, THAT'S OK BECAUSE I GOT YOU. LOOK! @_@
Our Curious George typeface was custom-designed, but did not include accents or even a question mark! Or an exclamation mark!!!!! See the font map below. So, between books, the tilde, accent aigu, etc, are being made. #lovemyjob

Here are four comps I presented, and the one on top was approved... but then the BOOK was killed!
